Who We Are

Our Philosophy

When someone considers counseling/therapy, generally they are seeking some form of growth/change because something is not working in their life.  While this may manifest as depression, anxiety, addiction or unhappy/broken relationships, our 30 plus years of clinical experience has taught us that the problem is often relational in nature, meaning the core problem revolves around either relationships with others, or the relationship with one’s self.

Our Focus

Our approach does not focus on treating pathologies or assigning labels, but rather on healing and helping our clients develop a stronger sense-of-self.  For this reason our therapists/counselors have received advanced training in Self Psychology, Intersubjectivity Theory and the neuroscience of change, equipping them with the knowledge and skill to provide an individualized treatment plan that addresses the client’s emotional wounds as well as psychological remedies.

Therapeutic Goals

  1. Establish an empathic understanding and a WE Space* between the client and the counselor/therapist.
  2. Facilitate the healing and growth process by uncovering emotional wounds and vulnerabilities.
  3. Apply key elements of psychoeducation grounded in the latest understanding of the human mind-brain provided by neuroscience.

*What is the WE Space?

  1. Emotional Safety – You feel safe without fear of being negatively judged, shamed, or unfairly criticized.
  2. Understanding – You feel respected and have the sense that the other sincerely wants to get you and understand what you are feeling and why you are feeling it.
